Thanks for visiting AcuKids. This website has been lovely composed to share my knowledge to help educate & support the community both local & afar to help raise happy, healthy children.

As a current Doctor of Chinese Medicine, former pediatric nurse,  and a mum I have always had a passion about the health & well-being of children.  I grew up in a family of six, on a farm in country Victoria.  I loved horses, playing tennis & as a kid playing in the mud.  Life was about being outside.  We could only get 2 channels on the TV & one of those was fuzzy.  We would get home from school & then head indoors only when it was too dark to see what game we were playing.  Life was pretty simple.  We were lucky.  We ate well, real food &  had very little take-out (only one fish & chip cafe in town).  It’s not that my parents were health nuts, far from it, it was just that, that was what was available.  We never had soft drink in the house except for special occasions & chocolate biscuits were a treat as opposed to the norm.  We had our share of colds & coughs but overall were pretty healthy.  My school had a total of 200 children, and I can’t remember a single child with autism, allergies, asthma or severe behavioral problems.  It just wasn’t an issue.

However, seeing the detrimental effects on our children today as a result of poor nutrition with diets high in processed foods, the overuse of antibiotics and the “hygiene hypothesis”, to name a few reasons, I have been inspired to create this website. Concerned by recent research suggesting that we will out live our children, due to the epidemic of obesity, diabetes & heart disease, it is my mission to help inform you as to how we can start to change this prediction.

If we do not change our direction, we are likely to end up where we are headed.

Chinese Proverb

Just like the Hippocratic oath I also believe,

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” .

I am an avid believer in eating local seasonal, whole foods and that prevention is better than cure!

I am also a realist.  A working mum with a busy home, time poor with very busy toddlers.  I understand that we are bombarded with information about what we should & shouldn’t do & that this information can change on a weekly basis.  My kitchen is by no means perfect.  I too am learning.  And it is this passion for information & ongoing study that I hope to be able to provide you with the information that you can use to make an informed decision on maintaining the health of your family.

I love the principles of Chinese Medicine & there approach to life.  And like the Chinese Proverb says;

Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day.  But teach a man to fish & he will eat for a lifetime.

Chinese Proverb.

I hope to teach, inform, create discussion & help you to help your kids meet their full potential.

Currently in its infancy I hope that it continues to grow and provided you with valuable teachings to inspire you to get our kids health back on track!
